NFL Preseason Live Streaming 2015 Online
If you want to watch Jacksonville and Buffalo Bills Play this fall, you are going to need a solid internet connection.
For the first time in the NFL history, the league will telecast a live online game on 25 Oct. unless you live in the Jacksonville or Buffalo area, the only way to watch the NFL will be to stream it.
The NFL has yet to name the internet service that will stream the Bill-jaguars game, but single likely suitor is YouTube. Google (Tech30, GOOGL) executive met with Roger Goodell (NFL Commissioner) in 2013 to talk carrying live NFL games on YouTube, according to Brain McCarthy (NFL spokesman).
This live stream is only an “experiment,” McCarthy said. The NFL has not committed to any internet streaming telecasts than this one game.
If the NFL is going to test something major, it picked the best game. The Jaguars were one of the bad teams in the league end years, and the Bills have not made the Playoffs in 15 years. The Week seven game will take place at London’s Wembley Stadium and will be telecast at 9:30 a.m.
So far, the only distributors for national games had been TV networks. But rumor has increased over the past couple years that a streaming service, such as Apple (Tech30, AAPL) or Amazon (Tech30, AMZN), Hulu, YouTube, Netflix (Tech30, NFLX) could one day bid to telecast a state of games. As a rising (mostly young) population out of satellite TV and cable TV subscriptions, the NFL is definitely looking for ways to reach that audience too. If the streaming experiment is a victory, it could eventually lead to broader internet deal.
The NFL telecast 8 Thursday night games a year on its own NFL Network, and CBS Network has the right to the other 8 games. CBS Night Football Thursday deal could be up soon: The converted its contract for the 2015 season, and the league has the chance of converted again in 2016.
For CBS and FOXA has agreement to telecast Sunday games through 2022. NBC Network has the right to telecast Sunday night games while ESPN telecasts “Monday Night Football” and both of these contracts are also tied up for the next 7 seasons.
DirecTV presently has the exclusive telecast rights for a package that lets followers watch any NFL game they want on Sunday. That partnership was also recently spread through 2022 in a deal value $12 billion over 8 years – an average of $1.5 billion per year.
But DTV could serve as a warning tale for streaming services looking to seek telecasting rights: The Satellite TV provider is likely losing finance on its NFL deal. More than two million DirecTV customers subscribed to its NFL Sunday Ticket package end season.
Currently, professional basketball, hockey, and baseball games are available on various online streaming services. Disney, Watch ESPN application also permits users to watch live golf tournaments, tennis matches, and basketball games and college football.
